Safeguarding at St. Philip's

Safeguarding is about promoting the welfare of all children in our school, through protecting them and keeping them safe from harm. At Nelson St Philip's, we take safeguarding very seriously. We ensure that every member of staff understands the school’s policy on safeguarding. This allows us to create a safe and secure environment for everyone. Our school's safeguarding policy can be found by following the link below:

Key information

There is nothing more important to us than the physical, emotional and spiritual welfare of our pupils.  For this reason, we regard the need for Safeguarding children from all harm as vitally important. To help explain safeguarding, we have attached our Safeguarding and Child Protection policy below.

Prevent Strategy

As part of our commitment to safeguarding and child protection, we aim to fully support the government's Prevent Strategy.

What is the Prevent Strategy?

The Prevent Strategy is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It:

  • responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and all aspects which are associated with extremism as well as the threat we face from those who choose to support these views.
  • provides a range of practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and to ensure they are given  the correct advice and support where needed.
  • works with a range of sectors including education and criminal justice.

What is Operation Encompass?

Operation Encompass is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and all police forces.

We have ensured that a member of our staff, (Mrs K Macdonald), known as a Key Adult, has been trained about Operation Encompass procedures. This allows us to use the information that has been confidentially shared with us by the police, to understand how a child may be impacted by domestic abuse and to then offer support to the child/ren in our care.
